SITREP.at produces Situation Reports on Architecture and Urbanity
SITREP.at produces Situation Reports on Architecture and Urbanity through the operation of on-site and remote design studios. We have operated studios in New York and Lisbon, and are currently expanding to Manila and Istanbul.
Rapid urbanization is happening worldwide, with 75% of the world’s population projected to become urban in 20 years. As a result, urban problems are quickly escalating in complexity and scale. In order to deal with these emerging, potentially devastating problems, architects and planners must fundamentally rethink the way cities are planned and designed.
SITREP.at is a New York City-based collective dedicated to creating novel, nuanced, and ultimately effective strategies for dealing with these problems. We create these strategies through the operation of intensive, onsite Summer Design Studios at cities worldwide, and aim to publish our findings and proposals for public distribution as Situation Reports – SITREPs.
Our studios take the form of intensive, on-site design studios operated by a dedicated team of Instructors. Instructors are experienced architectural educators, while studio Participants are selected through a rigorous application process. For each studio, Instructors establish specific, localized themes for close study, work with small teams of Participants on research and design, and present the results through juried reviews with invited critics. Our studios also feature public lectures, specialist discussion panels, expert tutorials and workshops, and public exhibitions. The resulting findings and proposals are then published for public distribution as Situation Reports.
